Default 450r oil??

i have always ran ams 0-40 full synthetic in my z400 but now i hear that synthetic oil is bad 4 the clutch especially on the 450r. What is the best oil to run on both sides of my 450? I dont have much access to Honda oil.

Default 450r oil??

In my 450r I use mobil 1 motorcycle oil which is pretty good, but expensive and I change my oil and filter every 5 hrs I run on the bike and along with that I change my tranny oil at the same time...For tranny oil I run Honda 2 stroke tranny oil it's in a red container.

I use Golden Spectro 10w40 on the left side and Golden Spectro SAE 80 wet clutch on the right side. I change my oil every 5-10 hous of ride time. I also change my filter every other time I change it. My engine has run perfect since the beginning(knock on wood), and Golden Spectro is what I've always used. Give it a try. Red

Amsoil is a motorcycles oil,all
motorcycles have wet clutches so I,m not sure why a ATV would be different. Even the amsoil advertisement state "for use in wet clutches".

TLC i have hear that full synthetic oil has certain additives that can cause the clutch to slip.

The motorcycle synthetic oil have no "NO FRICTION MODIFIERS" like the auto stuff. Here is a write up on the full synthetic Rotella oil for use in bikes.http://motorcyclebloggers.com/2005/0...synthetic-oil/

They recomend that for bikes also.

Default 450r oil??

When will it ever end? Where does all this crap misinformation about oils keep coming from????

The wet clutch on your Z isn't any different from the one in your 450. Did you ever have trouble with a slipping clutch on your Z when running synthetic??? Why would you expect there to be a difference with the 450???

Some good basic oil info: http://www.thumperfaq.com/oil.htm

Here is what your owner's manual recommends: In your 450 transmission, you can either run a API SG/JASO MA motorcycle engine oil, or one of the transmission specific lubes like Maxima MTL or Honda HP Trans Oil. On your engine side, you can run either an API SG/JASO MA or MB motorcycle engine oil. Best to just stay away from all "car" and "diesel" oils.....none of them are API SG or JASO MA, so you never really know what you are actually getting!

If any machine can benefit from a synthetic, it is your high reving 450! There are three types of synthetics, and of the three the group V ester synthetics have advantages over the other two types. (For the record, Rotella is a group III, and Amsoil and Mobil 1 are group IV PAO's.) http://www.maximausa.com/technical/l...beNews2002.pdf

My personal choice is Maxima Extra ester synthetic, and I run it in both my engine and transmission sides. http://www.maximausa.com/products/4s...synthextra.asp
