Opinions needed and quick on an 06 400 4x4 VP
#1
I am going to go look at one that has 3 miles on it (was won in a fishining contest) for $4,500. I really wanted to get IRS, and this one has the SRA, but not a standard SRA. I also really wanted a selectable 2/4wd with locking front diff, which this one also does not have. My question is on the value of the above things that I'm looking at. Would I be better off spending and extra $1,500 and getting a newer one with all of the above, or is this a deal too good to pass up? I do mainly trail riding in the timber with hill climbing, fallen trees, crick crossings, all the good stuff. Speed is not an issue. Let me know your thoughts, please!

The VP 400 is a discontinued model, no IRS, has a manual trans. with no diff lock. Why give up those very handy things to save a few bucks, in georgia my dealer sells the 500 with 5 speed and dif lock irs for 5400.00 the 400 would be a lot less. Id wait and get what you want, sometimes a deal is not a deal.

I think the retail price on that machine is about $4900. So youa re only saving about $400 and it sounds like the right engine size for what you want but the other options you want would give you a better machine.
Personally, if I could get that machine for say $4000 or less now things are a bit different. At $4500 it is just too close in price to what you want to settle for something less.

Not that things are the same but I got my 03 - 400fis Auto, new for $4600 out the door - tax included. I just don't have the locking front end. It has not been a big deal with me yet, I would like to have had the locker but in 03 it was not available. Someday I may buy an 04 front end with a locker and put it in, but as I said so far it has not been a big deal for me.
My personal opinion is that the 400 is about the best you can do for in a woods vehicle - I learned a long time ago with jeeps and 4x4 pickups that sometimes too much power is worst than not enough. I have had 4x4 vehicles for 45 years but I am just a dummy, however you can learn alot from a dummy - lol....

I thought the same thing when I was looking at the 400 and thankfully decided spending the extra money and getting the LE which had everything I wanted. Spend the extra cash now so you don't look for a new machine in a year.
