2005 DS 650 X won't start and dies again and again
#1
I loosing hope on my DS. First notice that the battery was dead 6 months ago and purchase a new battery. Then I kept having the same problem. The battery would go dead. I would try to start up the bike by it would crank very slow. I just replace the rectigfier and still the same problem.
The battery goes dead after I ride for a few minutes. If I plug the battery charger it would keep the charge just enough for a couple of start ups. I took the battery to get it tested and it is OK. The dealer told me that most of the time the rectifier goes bad which i replaced and no luck. Something it is draining the battery. Also I was thinking on replacing the regulator that seats right next to the rectifier. Cylindrical with two terminal.
I really don't what esle to look for. Dealer wants $ 150 to diagnostic the problem plus parts and labor and 2 weeks in the shop. It is a nice bike, I just finished servicing it. I don't really abouse this bike.
A friend of a friend of mine just bought a new DS 650 and it was dead at when he was trying to pick it up, they said they fixed it. Next morning when he was ready to ride the Ds was dead again, I don't know what happened after that.
Hope you guys can help me

I have not had this issue (thank goodness) But alot of guys have resolved it by following
their ground wire and making sure they have good contact.
Also the yusa battery was crap in my quad.I bought an odessy pc545 and only had to charge it once
to get it started in feb, when it was cold in MI.It hadnt been started in two months.
Good luck.

could be that something electrical is constantly running but not showing up,
my dad had this on his 2000 chev silverado 2500, the electric motors that adjust the driver's and front passenger's seats were constantly "running" Electricity was flowing through them, enough to drain the battery within 30 minutes, but not enough to hear the motors buzzing or to make the seat move or even vibrate slightly.
you should look into that, maybe your e-start motor is constantly sucking electricity out of your battery.

had this exact issue from day 1 for 2 yrs
a few batteries, a few rec 1 starter and a few other things
you have a short is the electrical system...run a ground(thick azz one) cable from neg batery to sub and main frame and this should do it..
there will exact steps under one of my posts from last yr

Guys, thank you so much for helping me. This problem started to happen 8 months after I purchased this bike. What is the best way to run a new ground wire to the frame. Did you guys drill a new hole for contact or you guys just used any bolt available to bolt on this cable. Also what gage you guys are recomending.

I think Bomb may have moved the main ground lead in 04. I hear many with older models talk about a ground strap on the subframe however both of my 04's ground strap goes from the negative lead directly to the frame (not subframe) near the rear shock mount.
If you have a +04 model there is no reason to relocate your ground strap. Just check your existing ground to make sure everything is making good conact.
