Default Sportsman 500 won't start

A friend of mine has a 2003 (I believe but it could be a 2002) Sportsman 500 and it currently won't start. He's never had a problem out of this quad before. Unfourtunately I don't know too much about what is going on with the quad, but I do know that he does all the maintenance when required. He did tell me though that it has been sitting in his garage for the last 5 months with a pretty full tank of gas.

Before I take a look at it, is there anything in particular that I should check (besides the obvious)?

I plan on checking the plug, draining the gas tank and the float bowl, then removing the carb and doing a thorough inspection to see if it is gummed up. I'm not familiar with the carb setup on this model, so can anyone get me pointed in the right direction?

Thanx!

if its been only setting that long then the gas didnt go bad to the point of where its crap/ mine sit for at least 4 monthsa thru the winter and dont have any problems. you need to check it out and let up know what its doing or not doing. i would say start w/ a spark issue.

i'd spray some gasoline down the air intake. take the air filter out and spary/squirt some fuel down in there. sometimes a bike just needs some little convincing in order to start after sitting for just a month. try that.

Make sure the battery has a full charge and use starting fluid.
