Default 96 TB Transmisson clicking??

My 96 TB has been giving me trouble. When I am at a complete stop and push the throttle wide open, the mojority of the time the transmission just makes a loud clicking noise and the wheels wont even turn. Sometime it will do this as I am going up a hill as well or am plowing through minor snow. Any idea what the problem could be. I have the tranny right out of the quad at the moment and I have it opened up but as far as I can see it looks normal. I see no wear spots on the gears or anything. Any ideas? Thanks I am ata loss and have no idea what to do next.

I had a bad front sprocket and mine did the same thing, if you went slow it was alright if you got on it hard ,it just spun making a loud clicking noise. Check the front sprocket your probably missing some teeth.

Check the front sprocket. That's what was wrong with my '96. Pulled the tranny apart for nothing, but now I have a nice clean tranny!

Haha, yeah I've been around and around with this a few times. When I opened up my tranny there was nothing wrong at all. Cleaned it and put it all back together. Put the TB is drive went about 10 feet forward and then stopped again. The sprocket kept sliding down the output shaft. You chain could be loose as well. Are there any wear marks where it might be slapping the inside of the case?

It is a good idea to go ahead and replace the trans chain while you got it apart. This will save you problems later on.

My trans chain does not appear to be loose its fairly snug and looks brand new. I might replace it though as some of you mentioned it might save me problems later on. As for the the front sprocket.. I will have to go and check this afternoon. The sprocket you all are mentioning, is it the one that is on the output shaft of the tranny? Just to make sure. Thanks again
