Default Need help with 2001 sportsman 400

Well guys,
A friend of mine has a 400 sportsman. Only one of his rear wheels is driving. he rang me last night to say it too it apart. From what he described I'm guessin its some sort of differential or a drive. He said the grooves are worn off. I haven't seen it yet. What would he be needin to do the job. Anyone know where I could pick up the parts at a reasonable price. Oh and could this be welded? to make it the same as a solid axel? Again I haven't seen it to know.

Thanks for any help.
