Default "04 650 v-twin cat pops out of gear! HELP!

Can anyone tell me what is wrong with my buddy's '04 650 that keeps popping out of gear? at first you had to hold the lever in high, now it won't stay in high at all... just keeps popping out. Is there just an adjustment that needs to be made?

The shifter is adjustable and that maybe the problem, however i don't have a service /repair manual for this model they are well worth the money ! It would pay for itself with just this shifter adjustment alone , someone may jump in here and give you a link to a site with instructions and photo's on how to do this job ; i've seen post's on here where member's have given out link's with repair instruction's on simular repair's before ! Please someone jump in here if you can help out ! I wish i could be of more help to you ; but this is all i can think of at this time ! williebee

Mine did that if I pushed the lever too far forward. Depending on which way you need adjustment, you may be able to do what I do. My AC is in high gear when it is about a half an inch from the top (where it is marked 'high'). See if you can feel it pop into gear as you push the lever forward, otherwise you need to adjust the shift linkage, not a big deal. If you are mechanically inclined you may be able to figure it out with the service manual.
