Could be several different things, here's what I'd check.
Make sure the brake isn't hanging up/catching on the drum
With the motor off roll it in forward and in reverse and see if the sound can be replicated
Also, check/change your gear oil in the rearend.
It could be the bearings, but I've never experienced a grinding noise when they go bad, mostly slop and play in them.
Does it make the noise in reverse as well?

well there is no brakes yet the foot brake drags a bit but i hit it back down to roll freely, there also is no reverse lever hence no brake handle i put it in reverse manuly and dont hear noise plus slow gear dont hear it only slow speeds and somewhat fast speed wish it had a 5th gear not counting low gear it would be pretty fast but i know it wasnt built for speed like it pretty well thanks for the info talk later i'm going to hyperparts.com ican get everything i need for brakepads ,levers, reverse ,cables $100.00cheapest around that i found plus yes bearings rear end from ebay if needed thanks again.
