Clutch springs red with yellow dabs of paint???? what do it have?
#1
I bought a used 2004 Scrambler with the typical mods, air filter, exhaust, and clutch. I don't like the really high RPM engagement, Its soo high that I must use reverse override to back up.
The spring is red and on one side the coils have a dab of yellow paint. Any ideal what I have? So I can figure out what spring to try next.
Wasn't able to tell if the helix had been changed or if the weights had been changed.

Edit- spent 5 minutes on google and found that I've got Team industry spring 35-140 lbs.
Now just need to pick what lower take off spring I want and how much I want the top end effected. Is it correct that the rate at the 1-1/4" Load is what effect peak RPMs ?
95% of the time will be trail riding with the wife and would only need the higher rpms to spin out of a mud hole.

anybody else wanna take a guess about what clutch spring or possible what clutch kit I have? Red spring with yellow dabs of paint, that is about an inch longer than stock blue/green spring. And the RPM engagement is so high that reverse is only posible using reverse saftey override.
The weights are s55. Stock weights are what 46?
My intial guess is a stock spring with heavier weights will engage prematurly, like right at idle. So I shouldn't even attempt the stock spring?

And what is up with the ATV aftermarker spring compaines they was 15-20 buck in shipping cost just to ship a little spring that would fit in a priorty mail flat rate box for 5.00 bucks!
I want to try a Team Ind Red with silver/purple strip that is 10-175lbs. - But I am not will to pay that much in shipping.

what pipe do you have? that wil help.
I beleive you have a red/yellow hpd 35pounds would not make it to were you need to use the override. if you can get used to the stall its worth it, I know its different at first, but pretty soon you will get used to it and never need to go back. performance will suffer going to something lighter.
for a 400 s55 is the stock weight.

Used a propane torch to heat the springs then compressed it. Was able to shorten the spring about 3/4"- So that it was about 1/4 longer than stock.
I am now able to use reverse without the reverse override. It does lack the jerk in accleration on take off -but I am ok with that. Becuase on a muddy slop or a rocky hill it would have just caused the bike to spin tires. Now I can take off and not the Launch it had before.
