O.K., I went and did it!
Yesterday I went to the Honda dealership and picked up two new ute's.
For me: 2007 Honda Rancher 420ES 4x4 in Olive, with 26" ITP's on black aluminum wheels, and
For her: 2006 Honda Recon 250ES in Blue, with 24" BearClaws on brushed aluminum wheels.
I did keep the factory tire/wheel sets for spares, or when the mud tires wouldn't be appropriate.
I didn't get a chance to ride them anymore than just to put them away at home. Hopefully in the next couple of weekends, I'll get some time to break them in!
Also, a new trailer is in order that can hold both bikes, I really didn't like backing the Recon down out of the back of my pick-up.

The 420 is a superb little machine, and the Recon is an absolute peach as well!
But.....when I put big tires/rims on my Rancher 420, it did weird things. Pretty much ruined all the nice handling characteristics of the machine. Big tires rob you of power too. I know you live in mud country, but I hope you don't end up regreting your tire/wheel choices!

I hope you enjoy the new quads. I know i did when I bought my first new one ever.
When you break it in it is best to ride it like you want to after break in. If you want to hit wide open throttle then hit wide open during break in. But always vary your speed and rpms while breaking in the quad.
You should be able to find a lot of threads on proper break in techniques on here. Find one that you agree with and use it.
Hope you really have a lot of fun on them.

Do an oil and oil filter change after 1 hour of riding (Recon has no oil filter)! This will get any metal shavings out of the engine right off. Stay with a basic petroleum oil like Honda GN4 druing break in. (You can switch to a synthetic oil after break in if you wish. I run Maxima Extra ester synthetic in all my quads, and Redline in my trucks!)
Change the differential and rear gear case oils early on....for the same reason!
Absolutely be sure you do the first valve adjustment at 20 hrs. It is important!
