Headlight conversion gone wrong
#1
Hey: Guys
I did the 2005 Headlight conversion on My 2000 DS the other night. Before I installed the headlight I replaced the bulbs with Piaa bulbs (H6M). Got everything all mounted up fine and the instructions were great - Thank you (Can't remember who posted them).
The problem I have is the headlight is much brighter on low then high. The bulbs are a dual filament type and both elements light up on low and high. This is without the motor running, I don't think it should make any differance( I have the motor out getting some head work (porting) done. I hooked the wires up the way it was show, color matching color - I think.
Any Ideas.

This may sound crazy but, sometimes the BRIGHTS appear dimmer because they aren't as focused as the low-beams. Did you try it in the garage and looking at a wall? If so, are the brights higher on the wall than the lows? If so, I think you've got it right. The brights or high-beams just don't have as focused of a light.
Short of that, yeh, you could have got the wires crossed.

There is no wattage difference between high and low. All that changes is the angle of the beam. On the lower mount for the headlamp.... do you have the tab with gromet on top or below the mount on the oil tank. It should be below or under the oil tank mount. I'm guessing you may have mounted it on top, putting the high beam angle up into the sky and seemingly producing less light than your lows. Just a thought.... good luck.

This is kind of off topic but has anyone found a way to do the "4 high" headlight mod? We do this to our chevys so both the high and low beam bulbs are on at once...there are 4 bulbs in the trucks and only two in the quads tho...has nobody done this because the bulbs would just burn out with both on at the same time?

I did not pull the quad out or shoot the light at a wall. It could be just the angle I was looking at it. It sure looked like a differance in wattage when I was looking at the light up close.
How does the angle change between high and low ???
Dunerider - all 4 elements light up all the time in mine on both high and low ???

They do!!?? Mine dont...if you move the headlight switch so its in between the high and low on the switch you get a much brighter light in the main headlight.
