If you like to play in the mud, ride your quad hard, and keep it dirty with little or no maintenance, you'll probably have clutch trouble long before you have belt trouble. It will slip when wet, but all you have to do is open the drain holes, and run it until it dries out.
Harley-Davidson introduced the belt final drive on their bikes in the early 80's, I believe. The belt drive has been around a long time. The only reason to change the belt in a properly maintained quad would be due to stretching, from carrying, or pulling severely heavy loads with a quad. They actually wear very little, and stretch nearly none; in normal use.
Based on the lifespan of motorcycle belts, as long as you keep water and debris out of the CVT case, and don't overload the quad, don't worry about the belt until you put 8-10 thousand miles on it. In fact, you will probably find it works better as the miles pile on.

I was just wandering how they were holding up compared to the compitition. It just seemed like after going to the ohter brands forums you hear of alot of belt wear issues. Thanks.

Well to give you an answer not swathed in mediocrity and circumstance most of the Kawasaki guys I know are getting 2k-4k out of their belts. You won't get 8-10k out of an off road belt unless you're holding constant speed at 35mph the entire time and even then it's a stretch (no pun intended).
I'd suggest checking in the Suzuki forum as it's the most similar to the Yamaha system and belt life should be comparable.

I had no vibration, slipping etc. It went all of a sudden without warning. A good rule of thumb is checking the belt condition every 2,500 miles. My belt had a lot of cracks and was in many pieces.
