I am purchasing a new ATV within the next two months. I have decided between one of these two. I have never owned either and was hoping on some feed back.

I will be using the machine for fun and hunting.

Thanks

Well which AC do you want?

The AC will be a better worker and hunter, but the kodiak is funnier(aka sportier).

The kodiak is great quad, I almost purchased one myself. If you were comparing a AC400 vs a Kodiak then I would suggest the Kodiak but you are not. I would go with the AC500 because of more power, speed, huge racks for carrying stuff, semi-IRS suspension. At only $400 or so more its not close go with the 'Cat.

Speed? The Kodiak is just as fast, if not faster I bet, but the others are right.

The price is deceaving. the MSRP might be $400 more, but at the dealer I am willing to bet that the Kodiak will be going for more than the Arctic Cat.

From what I've read, the Kodiak is no speed demon. Maybe it might have ok acceleration, and handling that allows it to travel faster over tight terrain, but I seem to remember it having a less than appealing top speed. Not a Foreman 400 top end, but still nothing to scream about.

There is a 2wd Kodiak in our club & while riding on logging trails the Kodiak will out accelerate my Rancher. However its top speed is about the same as the Ranchers 50-51mph it just gets there faster.

I know that, but when you compare it to an AC500 there probaly about the same.

MY buddy's dad has a Kodiak with 27" bugs on ITP steels and he can out accelerate my buddies 300ex.

Quicker.. the key word as I suspected. I think my honda 300 is quicker than my 500 AC when it comes down to that. Quicker to 30 maybe, but thats about it.

Quicker is a funny thing. With all 285 horses in check, my 2000 Z71 can absolutely smoke small cars like Cavaliers and stuff, but its a bit embarassing if you are dumb enough to race one. Nothing like the feeling of watching your governor hold you at 97 while the little compact car steadily gains and passes you. Absolutely helpless.
