Default Warn 424 or much larger problem :(

Ok let me start by saying on the lift the 424 will engage in 4x2 with no problems at all,but when off the lift it wont engage at all(cant pull it out enough it seems)..But the real problem I think I might have is,when on the lift in 4x4 mode I can spin my rear wheal and stop the front by hand without much problem,in 4x4 mode that don't sound right at all.In 4x4 mode you can still see the u-joint spin into the diff, but I can stop the front wheel by hand..On the lift in 4x2 mode everything looks right, front u-joint does not spin..I cant figure this one out, hope someone can help, thanks

By the way its a 03 Wolverine

You are right that does not sound right. Is this a new install or have you been using the 424 for a while and everything has been working fine until now. If that is the case, check to see that your anti-rotation strap is still attached to the frame of the bike and to the the 424 gear box. If it is I recommend checking with Warn's web page, http://www.warn.com/atv/ATV-424Select.shtml, then submitt the problem to thier tech support guys.

when spinning the rear tires in 4wd can you stop both front tires or just one? if you can stop only one and the other spins then 4wd is working properly. does the gear box make any noise?

Default Warn 424 or much larger problem :(

I was a bonehead on this question lol After talking to both Yamaha and Warn yesturday I figured this one out..

Yamaha said That the 03 Wolverine has a limited slip front diff,so if on the stand and the bike is in gear, you will be able to move the fronts freely,It works kinda like this, the more torque you need in the front the more you will get the more you get on the gas..

So I called warn and asked them why my front u-joint will not spin on the stand in 4x2 mode, but on the ground he told me the front tire rotation will still spin the U-joint even though the 4x2 is engaged..

So to test this,I put the bike up to a pile of tires I have, put it in neutral and in 4x2 mode..Jacked up the rear end, started it up,put it in gear and gave it gas..No forward movement at all..then back to neutral and put the bike in 4x4 mode(still jacked up in the rear)at gave it a little gas and the fronts kicked right in and pressured the tires I was using as a wall..good thing my quad jack rolls lol,so I figured that everthing was working right, and moved on to my next problem lol
