my friend bought this 110 5 months ago has had no problems with it till today one minute it's fine then the next it acts like it's running out of gas. it has a real slugish idle and will not rev up at all we cleaned the carb and drained the tank messed with it for several hours today. we got no where he was so mad he sold it to me for $100 bucks now it's my problem any one got any advice im at a loss

 

Does it have the original spark plug in it? I'd start there. The next thing I would check would be the valves for proper adjustment.

 

SS: we put a new plug in first i guess. i forgot to say so we also checked the timing marks at TDC and they line up right. cuz my first guess was the little timing chain jumped a tooth not so i'll check valves today. i also noticed after my post that it sounds great if you get it reved up real high like maxed out it does not sputter. it's hard to get it there it takes a few minutes of pumping the throttle. thanks for your in put

 

Check that the tank is venting. Unscrew the gas cap a bit (like 1/2 turn from tight) and see if the problem goes away. Sounds like it is pulling a vacuum on the tank.

 

WELL I DISASSEMBLED THE WHOLE UPPER END OF MOTOR RESET TIMING,VALVES,NEW PLUG, NEW COIL,RECLEANED CARB STILL MISSING BUT NOW EVERY ONCE IN A WHILE IT WILL RUN OK FOR 5 MINUTES OR SO THEN CRAP AGAIN. OH YEA WE TOTALLY TOOK ALL THE WIRES OFF THE WHOLE QUAD AND MADE SURE THERE WERE NO SHORTS. COULD IT BE THE CDI BOX IM NOT SURE OF ITS FUNCTION BUT THEY SELL THEM PRETTY CHEAP ILL PROBABLY BUY ONE JUST TO RULE IT OUT. IT MAY BECOME SCRAP YET I THINK MY BUDDY HAD THE RIGHT IDEA LOL

 

I run into the same thing 2-3 times a week sounds like a bad stator,get a spark tester run the motor and see if the spark is fading out you can try the cdi unit but most all the time its the stator .Be shure to check the wires on the left out of the stater to the plug ins them connectors give me the most trouble they don,t make good contact

hey all i finally figured it out yea!!!!!!!! well after a full week of wracking my brain i stumbled onto the problem i have this whole machine in little pieces in the garage i figured out that it was loosing spark every once in a while. i bought the cdi it didnt work! i had the stator and side case off looking at the magneto . i had a remote start button hooked up so i could test wires without hitting the starter every time. i noticed when it rolled over the mag was oblong so with further inspection i found the crank is slightley bent so the stator only hits on one side. i guess its time for a new motor
