Default 2003 AC 400 4x4 Auto

Hi Everyone,

I don't have the owner's manual ( i know I should get one) and got some questions for those who have one:

I have the older style NON-LCD analog gauge. When the ignition key is turned to start, engine kill switch off and the ATV isn't started yet, I see a gauge light that looks like a thermometer that comes on. Once the engine is started, the light turns off. Here are some questions:

(1) Is this light a warning light when the engine gets too hot?

(2) There is another light that looks like an oil can. Is that the low oil level/pressure light? For some reason, that light does not light up at all, before or after starting. I would assume like a car that all the warning lights should light up when the key is turned to start but the engine is not started. Once the engine is started, the lights should go away if there is no problems or stay on to indicate there is one.

I checked my dip-stick (with and without treading it in) and the oil level is below that. The dealer that sold the ATV said an oil change was done and since then I've put in about 150 miles. Either the dealer wasn't telling the truth or I am losing oil somewhere. I will probably do an oil-change, and change the rear axle and front diffs too and check/change the plugs to see it's condition. Otherwise, the AC has been running very well other than some persistent tapping noises - I think the valve clearance have to be adjusted too

The thermometer means high engine temp, the oil light is low oil level. The temp light comes on before starting, and goes out, hope I never see the oil light. The oil level should be in the cross-hatch area on the stick, and it has to be screwed in, then back out to get the proper level. The 400 motor has a slight valve or tappet noise, but I'm so used to it, it doesn't bother me anymore.

Check the oil 'without' screwing in the dip stick.
Oil change takes a little over 3 quarts, start with 3 and then check the level after the engine has run for a bit and add accordingly.
