I'm pretty excited to get one of these '99 400 Sports. It's got a full DG pipe & silencer and a K&N filter. I'm assuming it's got the stock clutch setup. Will need to look to know for sure. What clutch setup would work well with this DG pipe? How can I tell which DG pipe is on there (low, mid, high, etc)?

Hate to disappoint you but the DG on a 400 Polaris will rob power to where it runs worse than stock just makes more noise.
There is no way to correctly clutch to that pipe.your best bet would be to call Ritter and get one of his pipes and clutch kit.
Then Ebay the DG to someone that doesnt know any better.

Well that's a bummer about the DG pipe I've got the axle out to replace the rear carrier bearings, but I can't get the large nut loose (on the disk brake side of the axle). I've tried lots of leverage, penetrating oil and heating it with a torch. I'm gonna swing by my local machine shop tomorrow and see if they can help. I guess I can always cut the nut off, but I didn't want to risk hitting the axle/threads.

Update: I got the other axle nut off. I made some careful diagonal cuts with my cut-off wheel and got it to loosen up. The score now reads....Me 1, axle nut 0

you'll love this then , you really only need to take the one nut off, by the sprocket and slide the axel out the left. i usually take the carrier out and do it on the bench too
