I have an 07 90r and it has a charging problem. It will run for 15 minutes and die put it on a charger for a while and it will run for another 15 minutes. The charging rate is about 13.9v - 14.2v. Any Ideas?

 

Are you sure its a charging problem?..The voltage you listed should be fine to charge the battery.What are the symptoms when it quits..Does the engine still crank over?

 

It just dies and will not crank. I have not checked the voltage when this happened. (no meter with me)

 

Twister, it sounds like either a bad battery, or the Stator on the Viper is not charging the battery. Do check the battery when the bike dies,<u> before</u> you charge it.

I have the same bike, and the battery would run down in the winter when I left it outside in the (very) cold for 2 weeks, but then I could just jump start it and it would charge up and stay up.

Hope this helps a bit.

 

E Tons have been known to have stator problems....

 

Charged the battery overnight at 2 amps. Had battery voltage of 12.6v. Started it and it climbs up to 13.9 v. Runs then dies and battery voltage is back down to 12.5v

 

Twister, it sounds like your Stator is trying to charge your battery, but the battery isn't taking the charge. maybe take it out a run a test on it at the local garage.

Meanwhile, bulldogfallon, could you tell us a bit more re: hwat you have hear about Eton Stators (so we can follow-up), like where you heard it?

Not much info on it, but on this forum I had seen a post or two that mentioned a stator issue on E-Tons

 

I wonder if there is a short in the battery?..It's wierd though our viper runs fine even with a bad battery.Just kick start it and away you go.In fact most racers remove the battery and starter....Since it is getting spark and also trying to charge the battery I don't see how it could be a stator problem...Pull the plug when it quits and check for spark.

 

Here we go. It was a bad battery it was dropping about 2 volts overnight. As for as it running the plug that I put in several weeks ago was shot due to the choke hanging up the cable was moving all of the way but it was still sticking so an adjustment and new plug and it is fine my daughter has about ten hours on it since it was fixed and it runs great. Thanks for the replies.
