Does an enclosed Ranger need a heater?
#1
WE just got a ranger xp with a full cab. With the cab on, it can get really hot in there once the engine warms up.
I know polaris makes heaters, but I was wondering, in the winter, is the thin cab plastic enough to keep the heat in? Or does it dissipate right out? I know that if you pop off the heat shield under the middle seat, the heat (and the noise) just start to pour into the cab.

I guess it all depends how cold it is and how fast you are driving. Just like a car sometimes you need a lot of heat other times you don't. If you had a heater and didn't need it then you don't use it. If you don't have a heater and need more heat then I guess you get cold.

Well, winters here in maine are cold. All I'm really asking is whether or not the engine alone supplies enough heat to make a noticeable difference in the temperature inside the cab in the winter. I know that now, when it's warm with the cab on, it gets steamy hot inside. But that's with no wind chill cooling the outside of the cab.
Does anyone have any experience using a ranger in the winter?
Thanks

I don't have a cab on mine and I live in Ca so I may not be much help but I have been in mine when it was 11* and it was cold! We had plenty of cold weather gear on and it was bearable but it could have been better. I would think that with a cab it would be decent but the heater would make it that much better.

i'll tell you i've installed 2-3 heaters up here in alaska & they are not worth the headache , you have to make sure there is absolutely no air in the system or the heater only works sometimes & the heater only works when you are above 3000 rpm's (it's the way the system is designed , full of flaws) & for $485 bucks it just doesn't seem to work all that well! invest in an electric heater that runs off the 12 volt (cigerette )port & bundle up a little more
