I have pulled the starter. Unfortunately, the starter gear engages another gear that engages? The gear on the end of the starter is OK, as is the gear this sets in to. Is everything else inside the case?, or are there other external components this weekend mechanic can get to for home repair? Where is the solenoid and what component is it driving?

I don't want to pull the motor, and don't really want to crack the case. That being said, am I destined for the dealer repair?
