defective atv....dealer options??
#1
So I recently purchased a 2006 Sportsman 500 h.o. I have put about 25 hours on it. This is my first ATV, i haven't even made a payment on it yet and i already had to take it back to the dealer twice to repair the melting plastic cab. The dealer is not very friendly however, they did replace the rear plastic cab the first time but refused to replace it this second time because they said it will just melt again. They said they installed the upgraded heat shield among other things. They said Polaris was aware of this issue and their in the process of fabricating new cabs. So they asked me to pick my ATV up and they would call me when the new cabs are done. They had no estimated time frame to give me. I am not happy with their service or product and I don't like holding indefinitely, plus they refuse to give me any paper work.
Has anyone had this kind of problem before? Or dealt with a dealer in this way? Does anyone know what options I may be entitled to considering I just bought it? I prefer them to replace the entire ATV. I personally know 4 other people who have my same ATV and their not having this problem.
It just sucks that I spent $8K on something that is obviously defective plus burns my thigh every time I ride the thing..
any suggestions would be appreciated.
thanks

okay then Im glad you financed it thru Polaris which is HSbc bank, read the back of a statement from them and it states that you can return any services or goods that your not happy with in Plain english, as long as you bought it within a certain Mileage of where you live. its a crazy statement but it works , i had to load up my hawkeye and all the paperwork and start to come to the dealer to return it and they started back pedalling and wanting to fix the problem, they quoted me one price and interest and the first bill stated another price and Interest, Once i threatened to return the 4 wheeler they changed their tune and gave me a deal i couldnt refuse. read the statement on the back and you will see what Im talking about.

Don't feel alone checko. My story goes like this.
My family purchased 3 sportsman 800's in the last year. My fathers Aug 2006 with a 2 year extended warranty, My brothers April 2007, and mine May 2007. After Memorial Day a few weeks ago I was washing my 2007 machine with 10 hours on it I found that my plastic panel was melting. So I checked my brothers 2007 and his was fine. There was more of a gap between the pipe and his panel. I then checked my Dad's 2006 and his was melted far worse than mine. I called the dealer right away and explained the problem and they acted as if the knew nothing of this problem. (Which is obviously common place according to this forum) The dealer stated he would need my atv back to take pictures to send to polaris before they would even touch it. He told me polaris supposidly fixed the problem between 2006-2007 with a different exhaust pipe and mine should not be melting. (I must be imagining this)
I then stated my fathers 2006 was melting worse than mine having only 40 hours on it. He then stated even though my dad's has a 2 year extended warranty on it Polaris would not cover it because it was past the inital 6 month warranty and plastic panels are not covered in any extended warranties.
WHAT THE H%#!*. $24,000+ in brand loyalty gets you squat!
I am a Polaris fan but I am ashamed and couldn't be more unhappy right now.

From my family's own experiences with snowmobiles, if your dealer is terrible find the next closest and check them out. Going the extra half hour or whatever the distance may be, may prove to give you a 200% improvement on customer service.
There are the guys out there who don't care, and there are guys out there for the sport and who will do their best to help.
Look through the warranty material you got with your machine and pick through it too...you never know what you can find in the fine lines.
