Jetmoto 250 vs another Chinese 250
#1
Last night I had the opportunity to take a quick ride on another Chinese 250 that is pretty much identical to this one here in all respects.
250
I was quite worried as the owner my neighbor had told me it will pop wheelies almost every time you take off. The Jetmoto 250 will pop one if your drop the clutch at a higher rev but will not just do it with the push of the throttle. Now I have not been super overly impressed with the power of the Jetmoto 250 but not having ridden to many 250's in the past I have not had too much to compare it to.
His Chinese quad is only a month old so it's newer then my 4 month old Jetmoto. He paid $1900 locally, which I am sure he could have bought it cheaper on the net but his source is covering it with a full warranty.
The quad is not nearly as nice as my Jetmoto when you look at them side by side. The Jetmoto has much better looking Frame, shocks, tires (bigger also), rear swing arm, rear shock, rear axle, over all design, and just over all a better looking quad.
He had asked me to come down and help him get it started, seems he had a hard time last time he tried to fire it up. We jumped it and it fired right up, I think it just must have been flooded the last time.
He let me take it for a spin, I had ridden my Red 250 down to his house so I told him to jump on it and ride with me. We took off and he was right this thing would pull a wheelie easily. the gearing was so much different then my Jetmoto, 1st gear seemed really low and would pull the tires up with pretty much throttle alone and felt like it would climb I bet most any hill as low as it was. We only rode around the neighborhood so It's not the best evaluation for off rode but it was enough to get a feel for the quad. I loved the gearing, I think this is the only aspect of this quad I liked over the Jet and I think Jetmoto needs to take a good hard look at next years model and gear it better for climbing and for over all speed.
First off I noticed the front drum brakes where quite inferior to the Jets front discs.
Power seemed pretty good and was pulling ahead of him on my Jetmoto but I had no idea how hard he was trying to keep up. We came up to a wide bend in the road and it was very unstable, kind of felt like I was on a Pogo stick. I think this is because if the location of that rear shock mounting directly to the rear axle?
As we came up to the next stop as I was gearing down it let out some horrible backfires.
After a quick ride we swapped quads and had a Drag race. We got side by side, me on my Red Jetmoto 250, I said go and hesitated to so I would not have the advantage. His initial jump he got a half-length on me but I quickly caught up and walked away from him and did so in every gear. I had him buy two quad lengths by the end. On the way back we were just riding and gunned it and this time was a bit closer but I was still walking away by 3rd gear.
Now I feel much better about the power of the Jetmoto, I still think the gearing needs a complete redesign. The over all suspension was so much better on the Jetmoto and he agreed also. The only things I liked better on his was the gearing and he had a Hi Beam as well as low on the head light. I have not rode at night yet but from what I can tell the Jet must suck lighting wise and his may also and perhaps the Jet is normally in High beam mode?
Just thought you may like my quick review!

A simple change of the front sprocket and you'll have the gearing you want on the Jetmoto.
You say he bought locally. Was this from a big 4 dealer (Yamaha, Honda..) or someone that sells just the Chinese brands?

I have lowered my gearing from a front 17tooth to a 14 tooth and still it could be lower! Jet needs to go back and redesign from thwe motor gearing to the finnal. They know they messed up in this aspect!

I have the same problem on the JetMoto 110. JetMoto puts a 14 front, 40 rear. What comes stock on the 250?
The 110 has 3 gears. I can NOT accelerate in 3rd with the stock gears. No, the clutch is not the problem, the gearing is locked and the engine is not allowed to rev up in 3rd.
After a lot of research, I managed to find a 13 tooth front replacemnet using a Honda TRX90 stock gear (Made by Sunstar, model# 23313 sold at local Honda dealer for $18.99). If you decide to go this path, dont make the mistake that I did and assume you can just use the existing front sprocket lock plate with the Honda gear. The stock JetMoto lock plate will not fit the TRX90 sprocket. Shaft dimensions are the same and so are the two bolt holes threads. However, the tooth pattern of the Honda gear is exactly the same the JetMoto lock plate, and therefore the lock plate will not lock in the sprocket on the shaft. The holes on the lock plate seem to also be about 1 to 2 mm further apart on the JetMoto lock plate. So dont forget the Honda $1.35 lock plate to go along with the Honda gear. I should get it on Friday.
on that same thought.. anyone know if I can use a different rear sprocket spindle on the 110 axle? I cant find a larger rear with the stock 6 bolt rear sprocket spindle on the JetMoto 110. With good reason... I should add. JetMoto usese a 428 chain but a 6 bolt pattern implies the use of a stronger chain like a 520. So I need to go to a 4 bolt large diameter pattern, used on most 428 chains setups, to have any chance to find a replacemnt larger rear end.

Thanks for the review outofline. I would think your buddy would be pretty upset paying $100.00 less than you for a better headlight and the ability to pull wheelies. For $100.00 more you got better handling, better suspension, better brakes, and better acceleration.

I would think since it doesnt even have a name on it. That guy will be calling Raceway for parts soon.
