Can Am outlander 800 electrical problem
#1
On my 06 Can Am Outty 800, I keep having problems with the speedo completely shutting off and coming back on. It mostly happens when you turn left real hard, and the machine is on like 2 wheels. But it does happen other times randomly but i can get it to do it every time by turning real hard left abruptly and going on 2 wheels. The dealer keeps clearing the code and it doesnt do it at the dealer after that but everytime i bring it home it does it again. I went over the machine and checked for loose connections and everything SEEMS to be fine. I was thinking maybe theres a bad ground somewhere or something is rubbing or getting nocked loose that i cannot see. Does anyone have any insight on this issue? Thanks!

well, I know you said you went over all the connections so you probaly did thisbut did you remove the airfilter cover, and then remove the speedo. cover. their are a lot of connections under there, maybe something there is loose. you could also try putting dialectic greese on thouse connections as well to keep any corrosion out. not sure if that will help.. but noone else has put any suggestions down so I thougt I wou;d throw in my 2 cents.

I went under the speedo and air box area and made sure all the connections were still good i checked there before, and still it does it. Im pretty sure its loosing ground as it only does it as its turning hard left and leaning a little. It has 31 miles on it so ill have to take it into the shop again to get it looked at. They keep clearing the code and dont really want to do anything about it and it annoys me when i spent over 8 grand on a quad and they dont stand behind it.

Im taking it back down tommorow and leaving it there and they are going to try and find the problem, my suzuki is also going in because of a strong fuel odor, so no riding for a while, both of my quads are going to be in the shop so that means more time on here lol.

If its that new just ask for a replacement of a whole new Quad if they can't fix it. Clearing the Codes concerns me! Can-Ams normally do not have a lot of problems hope you do not have a defective model like you know the one they make when they are not feeling well that day like a money pit or Lemon !!

I live in PA, but is there a such thing as a lemon law for atvs? I know there is a lemon law for cars, just dont know if it applys to atvs. I was thinking of looking into it, but didnt get too excited, because its only the second time they are going to look at it, so if it has to go in a third time, thats when I will be more then angry about the situation. They cleared the code twice the first time I was down there, so hopefully they find out whats wrong with my quad so I can take it out wheeling again soon. Maybe Ill be able to get a new atv and get a XT this time, but i better not get my hopes up. I have 70 miles on it now, but its less then a month old, but still it shouldnt have been doing this at all.

Battery cables loose can cause problems like this too.

Ive tried twisting and tightening connections and using dialectic grease and still nothings working. Tommorow morning I am dropping it off. Hopefully I get a remedy to this problem as soon as possible. Battery connections are as tight as they possibly can be the wires will not move as well.

Are you taking it to Gander Mountain in Washington, PA??? I have not had luck with their service shop. I need to take mine back in for service work (bad rear universal) which is making very loud and ugly noises. I am going to ALL-Pro in Weirton. The guy seems like he should work with you real well.
