Boring Out the 400
#1
I ran my Honda 400ex out of oil the other day and messed it all up. There were no signs of it leaking oil or burning it so I never checked it. When I was out on the trail I noticed that it wasn't running right and it kept stalling on me. So I checked the oil and there was nothing on it. I had my buddy tow me back to the truck and when I removed the spark plug there was still some oil in it. I didn't start it until the other day when I changed the oil (there weren't any oil shavings in the oil). And now it burns oil bad. A lot of white and blue smoke coming out the exhaust.
Anyways about how much, I am going to install a 440 kit in it and was wondering how much I have to have it bored out. I am going to get a sleeve and a 12.5:1 Piston and also getting a Hot Cam Stage 2 for it. I just called the machine shop and they told me it was going to cost $65 for a 3 angle valve job, $60 for port and polishing, and $40 for the first thousand and then $10 for each addition thousands. I am trying to figure out how much this is going to cost me. And also if you have put a 440 kit in you 400 let me know what kind of jetting you use. I also have a K&N air filter (and a pre-filter) and pro-circuit T-4 that I will be running on it all the time.
Thanks for all the help!
Also, if you can add things that would help get more power let me know! (I already have a CDI Box that gives it 1000 more RPMS than stock) I know power isn't everything, but when you mess your quad up and need it fixed by next month I won't be adding any handling upgrades quite yet!

you shouldn't have to bore your stock sleeve out if your getting a new one. just press the old one out and the new one in. it might be neccesary to bore the jug so it can accept the new sleve. i'm not sure on the boreing the jug though it might not even be neccesary. but i have a local machine shop that used to do it for eight dollars a cylinder. 100 dollars is pretty steep.

I know it has to get pressed out and then the jug has to get bored then the new sleeve has to pe put in and a final bore done on it. The new sleeve is a big diameter than the stock sleeve.
