Question on 300EX REar Shock
#1
The rear shock on the 300ex seems to bottom out on every small jump/bump. It also is easy to put my weight into it and bottom it out taking off in first gear. Is this normal for stock 300ex rear shocks. Are they adjustable, looked didn't see anything.

Shock adjustment: <a target=_blank class=ftalternatingbarlinklarge href="http://atv.off-road.com/atv/article/articleDetail.jsp?id=192286

If you have gone through the adjustment procedure and your shock still bottoms, consider the very distinct possibility that it is blown....they don't last forever! A blown shock will not only bottom easily, but it will rebound way to quickly, and try to launch you off the quad on a big whoop.
I'm not sure if the stock shocks are rebuildable, but I have had great luck with Works Performance shocks (Works may be able to rebuild it if it is rebuildable), if you end up having to replace it.

What you describe is absolutely not normal, even for the stock shock. Except for the preload adjustment, there is no way to adjust the stock 300ex shock. Your shock is very likely blown, and even if it could be rebuilt, you could buy a used one for much less. I doubt it can be rebuilt.
Of course, Works and Elka make very nice shocks, but you have other options. Here's what I see as your options:
1. Cough up the dough and get a Works or Elka rear shock.
2. Go to Ebay and buy a used 300ex rear shock.
3. Do what I did - put a rear shock from a 2001 Raptor on the bike.
Now before someone starts on me about #2 and/or #3, I have absolutely enjoyed having the Raptor rear shock on my bike. And on Ebay, you will likely find other people who did what I did - took off a stock rear shock with less than 5 hours of ride time - and sold it in near perfect condition.
Good luck AZ, hope this helps.
