2000 foreman 400es shifting issue
#1
It shifts threw all the gears at low speed but after going fast it will not shift anymore...
also the speedo is not working I would geuss these go hand and hand
does anyone know where and how to check for the speedo sensor?

Check the shift control motor first by removing it and connecting a 12 volt battery + and - terminals to each wire leading to the motor. Then switch them around. If the motor checks out by spinning both directions freely, it is most likely in good shape. If it needs to be tapped on to get going or spins slow and gets hot running in a short period, it is bad.
If the control motor makes a bad contact while running, the ECU will "see" an error and shut the electric shifting down. Usually in this phase the meter will read -- where the gear position should be displayed, and when the key is turned off and back on, it will usually shift again.
I have seen the symptoms you describe many times on units of that year. 9 times out of 10 the speed sensor is the culperate. The key is in what you said, the speedo freaks out before going into default shut down of shifting.
I would proably replace the speed sensor
The manual will only list a continuity test for the speed sensor wire from the control unit to the speed sensor connector. No pulse signal spec is listed for it.
When I diagnose pre-2002 foreman, I will take it out and run it to the rev limiter in 3rd gear and let off the throttle. If the meter draws a blank, speedo wierds out and the unit can not be shifted without using the emergency shifter, the speed sensor is faulty
