34mm keihins vs. air strykers

I was told that unless you increase the displacement of your 350, the larger carbs don't help much and can actually hinder performance. Something about volume and velocity of the fuel/air mixture. Maybe the aftermarket pipes, jetting and dual-stage reeds make up for it?

You are actually part right. Unless the motor is ported then larger carbs are pretty useless. But, when your motor is ported it will beg for those puppies. Also, if you go TOO big, like say 39mm then yeah that will be too big for a 350. The 35's are within the realm of tolerance for the 350 and I actualy run 35.5's and they fly. So yeah you are right, but the 35's wouldnt be considered to much for a ported 350.

Yeah, I thought something needed to be done to accomodate the larger carbs.
Tell me, with the larger carbs and porting work, do you notice a very big increase in fuel consumption? As it is now, me and my friends get a pretty good ride out of a tankful and I really don't want to buy one of those large IMS tanks, I just think they're kind of ugly. If I lost a lot of fuel economy, I would have to go to the larger tank. Nothing sucks more than running out of gas in the sand dunes!

yes fuel consumtion will be increased naturally. You are increasing the port area, which will allow more fuel to be introduced into the engine, as well as larger carbs which will flow a larger amount of fuel into the ports. With out the larger ports then the cylinder would not be able to handle the amount of fuel being intoduced. How much will fuel consumtion be increased? I cant say, it may be noticable or it may not. You should consult with your engine builder.
