Default Speedometer Problem on 2002 Sportsman 700 Twin

Hi all. I'm a new member here. I've recently purchased used a 2002 Sportsman 700 Twin 4x4 Auto and a 2004 Trailblazer 250.

Both run well.

My problem is the speedometer on the 2002 Sportsman. AWD seems to be working. It lights up when switched on. The speedo lights up, the icons are all visible, but I'm not accumulating hours, miles or time since last service hours and no speed registers.

Other than that it runs very well.

Any suggestions on where to start?

There are two plugs on the back of the Speedo. The small one (3 prong) is the one that registers the speed / hours on your machine. It would be worth checking that connection.

Checked that already. I even put some di-electric grease on the connection.

On edit: Did you mean to check the physical status of the cable AND the voltage to the sensor?

I purchased and installed a new sensor this morning. That fixed the problem. The sensor and cable are integrated and much cheaper ($56) than a new speedo ($283).

Thanks to those who replied.
