Blaster shift cam gear help QUICK!
#1
My blaster shifter stopped working a few weeks back and I never got a round to figuring out whats wrong with it. Today I crashed my back up quad and need one for this coming weekend. I tore the Blaster apart and found a tooth laying under the clutch. The tooth came off a small gear with a bunch of pegs sticking out of it. I looked all over the place to find out what the gear is and found out its the shift cam. Problem is I only found one place that has this shifter cam, and its an entire cam assembly for 119 dollars. I only need the small gear on the end. Anyone know where I can get just this gear or if I have to get the whole assembly, somewhere cheaper to get it? Also if anyone has one of these let me know as well.

Hmmm...then maybe it's not my problem lol. I found what looks like a tooth laying in the bottom of the cover there but it was getting dark so I wasn't able to tell it it actually came off that gear or not, but looked like there was tooth missing.
Basically the problem I have been having is that the shifter, no matter how many times you push it up or down, will not go into any gear. However once in awhile you get lucky and it goes into a gear, not really sure which gear though. Ill check it out now.

I had the same thing happen. I'll give you a run down of what I found to look for.
First off it is unfortunate but you will have to split the case open. Check your shifting arms. Make sure there not bent. Also check the shafts that the shifting arms slide on by rolling them on a flat surface to make sure there not bent.
Finally, check your actual shifting rod. The one that your foot pedal connects to. Mine was bent and causing most of my problems.
While you have the case split its not a bad idea to put new rings in and check all your bearings and seals while your in there.

Alright, I ran up to my parent's where the blaster is located right now and checked it out, guess this is why you shouldnt work on stuff in the dark. The small peice of metal I found isnt a tooth, or peice of a tooth at all. It is the square key that is supposed to hold that little gear on the end of the shift cam from spinning without the shaft. When I took that little gear off, the screw that holds it on was extemely loose, and so was the gear. The square key seems to fit tight in the gear, Im guessing it must have fallen out from the screw/washer being loose. The only reason I took the gear off was because I found the small peice laying in the bottom there, and noticed what I though was a missing tooth on the gear which you say is for neutral. Could this by any chance cause my shifting problem, the fact the key fell out of there?
When this all happened, the 4 wheeler was working completely fine, I parked it for lunch and when I got back on it, I went to shift out of 2nd (where I left it) and when it went down into first, I could continue to push down as if I was going through more gears that weren't there. So it kind of surprised me since it pretty much broke while I wasn't riding lol.

Chances are it broke while you were riding it. That shifting drum don't move until you try to shift so if that key fell out you wouldn't notice until you tried to shift and all conditions were right where it moved enough that the shifter couldn't hook the gear on the drum to spin it.
Its good that you found the problem because its is a pain to split that case and get it all back together correctly.

Yeah I kind of figured it probably fell out while I was driving around the yard, I down shifted to second and drove around a bunch of stuff to get to where I parked it so it must have come apart somewhere around that time, then noticed it on restart. I guess I'll put it back together and give it a try, see what happens. I ordered a gasket for the cover but I wont get it until tomorrow so that kind of sucks. But thanks for all your help

this happened to my timberwolf and i found a piece of a gear and it ended up being the shift cam segment, this may be what you found, look to the right of your shift shaft and there should be a gear towards the back, find a oem parts website such as rockymountainatvmc.com and look in the "shift cam - shift fork" section and you will see it good luck
