Pretty simple. Does the inlet/engine side of your carb look like this?

(I can see all the way up to the enricher)

That's what I want to know.

I had the thing in the shop for the steering recall and I mentioned to them that the choke wouldn't stay pulled out.

After we got it back, choke would stay where we set it and it started a lot better. Now however, the thing has aquired a super bad bog at 3/4 to full thottle. I don't know what those monkeys from the dealer did, but by fixing one issue, they created another.

It's almost like the fuel pump is pumping gas into here and in the float bowl at the same time. Basically just pouring fuel into the carb body and flooding it.

I've set the needle all the way to the #1 position and reduced the main jet down to a 132. Still bogs like hell. So to me, it's no longer a jetting issue.

If anybody reads this and has a service manual handy, does it mention how to test the fuel pump?

//rant on// I ain't taking back to the dealer. Obviously, the grunts in the service dept don't have a clue - or just don't care. If it's not one of their buddies sport bike, MX racing bike or sport quad, you get crappy service. //rant off//

Okay is it running good up to 1/2 throttle ?
Does it ever clear up ?
so if i understand you correclty you start out and and progressivly apply throttle 1/4 throttle good 1/2 throttle good and then full throttle and it bogs down if it clears up and pulls good then its running to lean to lean.

if it doesnt clear up at full throttle then its to rich and it needs more air.

if you put the clip on the needle at #1 which is the top and number #5 is at the bottom i put mine at number 3 position and it ran better.
reply and we can get you running right

I can't see anywhere in the manual where it tells you how to test the fuel pump. It does talk about lean and rich symptoms though.

LEAN SYMPTOMS

Hard start, or no start, bog, backfire, popping thru intake/exhaust, hesitation, detonation, low power, spark plug erosion, runs hot, surging, high idle, idle speed eratic.

CAUSES

No fuel, restricted vent, fuel lines or fuel valve restricted, fuel filter plugged, carb vent lines restricted, Plugged or restricted inlet needle and seat screen or inlet passage, clogged jets or passages, float stuck, float too low, intake leak, jet needle position incorrect, incorrect pilot screw adjustment.

RICH SYMTOMS

Fouls spark plug, black sooty exhaust smoke, rough idle, poor fuel economy, engine runs rough/misses, poor preformance, bog, engine loads up, backfire.

CAUSES

Air intake restricted, dirty air filter, ?electric choke inoperative?, incorrect pilot air/fuel screw adjustment, faulty inlet needle and seat, faulty inlet needle seat o-ring, float level too high, poor fuel quality, loose jets, worn jet/needle jet or other carb parts, dirty carburetor (air bleed passages or jets).

Hope this helps in some way. There just isn't anything in the manual about testing the fuel pump. As a matter of fact there isn't really anything about the fuel pump, other than it has one.

Check your airfilter and your snorkel for obstructions to make sure you are getting enough air.

The choke has a tension adjuster on the ckoke **** under a rubber cover on the pod. Turn the adjuster and check the tension when you pull out the choke. That fixed mine.

Thanks all, but I've already done all that. "This aint my first rodeo"

I fully understand how to tune a carb - which is why this is something else.

As I stated in my prior post, I'm already down to the #1 clip position on the needle and down to a 132 main jet. The bog is still there.

More and more I'm thinking there's something wrong with the enricher circuit or fuel pump.

Add me to the list of a machine that does not run right after the recall. It runs good up till 3/4 throttle, and it just looses power and slows down. If I let off, it will work good again until I run WOT. I think I will call the dealer back next week and talk to them about it.
