Default 2006 Hawkeye carb help needed

Well boys and girls - FINALLY.

Took going down to a 127.5 main to finally get it running right. OE needle at position #2.

Now the little bugger is happy all the way from idle to WOT. Even still on the work jack I can tell there's more grunt.

It's going to make a big difference once we get it back in the dirt.

Actually, I'll probably end up with a 125 main to lean it out a bit more so when we head up into the mountains, it'll still be peppy.

I still can't imagine what the shop may have done in order to change it so drastically. At this point, I really don't care.

I'll be sure to report how it all turns out after our next ride.

BTW - the Stage 1 Dynojet kit turned out to be completely worthless. I plan on letting them know, but I don't expect they'll refund me or anything. Oh well - live and learn.

Hummmm... the DynoJet kit made a world of difference in my Hawkeye. Between the drilled slide, the Dynojet kit, and removing two 14 gram rollers from the drive clutch, it is a MUCH improved machine. Guess it shows no two bikes are the same.

Glad you finally got it figured out.

Thanks Ricky.
I am calling my Polaris mechanic back today. My 06 was manufactured 11/10/2005.

He's gonna punch in the VIN to see if recall work was done. Steering, Clutch Rollers and Carb, which entails holes in the airbox as well. I know my airbox ain't got no holes. We drove it around wihout the airbox cover, an 1/2 to WOT was junk.

This is actually my kids bike I picked up used last Friday. I traded in his Sportsman 90. I, though, frickin love my Sportsman 500 HO. It ran good at 12,600 ft. at TinCup pass in Colorado on the continental divide.

Then again, so did my kids carbed 90 as well.

The Hawkeye seems REALLY finicky with elevation changes.

Just a little update;

I contacted DynoJet about my issue. Apparently they were not aware of the latest carb changes based on the reply I received.

Luckily, since DJ is located in Las Vegas, they've agreed to refund me for the kit. Also, I volunteered the use of the Hawkeye so they could do more testing. And they accepted!

Lots of bonus points to DynoJet and their customer support for going the extra mile to make things right.

Hopefully we'll get out for some riding this coming weekend. Will post ride/performance results afterward.

After action report:

Bugger runs really well now! Still haven't pulled the plug to see if it's still running too rich (which I'm pretty sure it still is), but it's a hell of an improvement.

Excellent all the way through the throttle range.

Yanking a few clutch rollers also really improved the acceleration. I was surprised when my wife mentioned it was reving much higher than it used to. She usually doesn't notice those kinds of things.

I think she managed a top speed of (indicated) 42mph. I'll most likely get some rollers of lesser weights and start trying different combos until we get a good balance of acceleration and top speed.

For now though, all the cussing and frustration is behind. Got a complete refund from DynoJet and hopefully they'll be calling to use the Hawkeye as a test machine to redo the jetting kit.

Related to 06 Hawkeye Carburetor Help:
The tube connected to the bottom of the carb - what does the other end connect to? I found my wife's bike dripping gas from this tube and could not find what the other end connected to. I ended up taping the tube to the choke cable to keep it from spilling gas all over the bike. I suspect a stuck float. The bike ran for a while but wouldn't restart after a stop to sight in hunting rifles - the tube was full of gas and the engine appeared vapor locked. It wouldn't restart with the tube taped full of gas. Towed bike back to the trailer. Since then the bike has been parked in barn. The dripping stopped - the tube is empty and no longer leaks gas... yes, the tank is full. I have not attempted to start the bike since I want to change the oil in the event it has become diluted with gas - I seized up a perfectly good lawn tractor engine up after a similar event and learned a valuable lesson about diluted oil. Any help where to connect the anti-carb end of the tube? Thanks!
