brakes?
#1
Well Iwas wondering if you guys could help me out here? I was out riding today, 96 sp 500. I was using the brakes they worked fine until one hard stop and bamo, no pressure. I looked for leaks and sure enough found a pin hole leak in the rear brake line. I fixed the line by splicing in a new section, yes double flared. I went to bleed them and have no brake pressure. I get some fluid but not much. I tried hooking up my hvac vaccum pump to it and was able to suck fluid through the line. I took off the line from the master cylider and got a squirt or two but not too much. is it possible the seals in the master cylider took a dump when the line lost pressure? man i was thinking this will be a quick easy fix,LOL.

it is possiable that the hard stop didnt do the master cylinder any good. make sure theres good pressure at the handle. i hear once theres air in the brakes their a main to get out.

well, I tried everything I know. pulled 20oz of brake fluid through the lines out the bleeders and still nothing. I think I'm going to try to rebulid the cylinder. does anyone know how the heck this thing comes apart? I would love to do a rebuild at about 40.00 verses 124.00 for the whole thing.

w/out looking im guessing there should be a c clip that is at the handle end that holds the piston in place. take that out and it should pull out. im not 100%sure w/out looking though.

Well I put it all back together and found some how my foot pedal was working again, so I went for a ride. All through the ride I was trying to use the handle. After about two to three miles of riding the brakes are back! wow What a pain that was. I think I must have had a nasty air bubble in the master cylinder. All is weel now after 2 days of messing with it, thanks for the insight sten!
