compression test

Default compression test

Can some one tell me how many psi the guage should read on my 05 sportsman 5oo when i do a compression test?

4 stroke engines use a compression release upon starting, but it should be somewhere around 120-130ish

so what does it mean when the compression is between 75-100

It sounds low, but like I said with a compression release it could be that low, doubtful though. Why are you compression testing a 2005 engine?? Did you do something that may have harmed it?? Call & ask the local Polaris dealer's head mechanic what it sould be reading. They have all that info on hand.

I just looked at my sevice manual for my scrambler and it says that it should be somewhere between 70-90 psi but it verys on cranking speed. It sounds like your compression is just fine.

because of the compression release they want u to do
a leak down test on the motor. what is wrong with your
motor that u are checking compression? are u doing it
just for reference?

my motor boggs evry time i take it out, but when i'm at home it runs fine,i think it's a jetting issue

have you checked the clutches as they will make it bog some if there worn out or bad belt, or extremly dirty. just a thouhgt.
