I would put it up on a stand, with all 4 wheels off the ground. Hold onto the drive shaft while you spin the rear wheels. If the rear wheels/axle will spin, yet the drive shaft doesn't, then you have a problem with the rear drive hub....like some stripped gears in there. If you drain the oil on the final drive, is it full of metal shavings????
On the other hand, if spinning the rear wheels also spins the drive shaft, then you most likely have a problem in the final drive of the transmission. If you drain your shared engine/transmission oil, is it or your oil filter full of shavings????

Does make more sense that the splines would be stripped, rather than the gears themselves. Still, you should have lots of crud in your rear drive oil.......

Seen this many times over a summer, and where the splines are there is no oil. They get water in the axle tube then in around the axle and rusts up and pretty soon baby smooth splines.

20W50 in the engine or the rear final drive???
That is ok for the engine/transmission in hot weather, but I would run something lighter in cold weather.
For the final drive, you want an80W90 GL5 "hypoid" gear oil, not engine oil!
