honda vs suzuki

I have owned both. Both have excellent handling and the Z is really an EX knockoff in terms of frame geometry, but with slightly better suspension. Being water cooled and and a double ohc engine, the Z is a fair bit faster even though they are both 400cc's.
The Z likes to rev, and the EX is more of a torquer. I really prefer the EX for tight, technical trail riding. You just put it in 1st gear....and you can idle through the rough stuff. With the Z, you have to keep the revs up and do some clutch work in slow technical terrain (although it doesn't need to rev anything like one of the 450's).
The 450R came along, and being all rev it is a great machine for screaming fast riding in the wide open desert. The EX on the other hand is all low end grunt, and prefect for my very tight semi-technical local mountain woods trails.
The Z falls somewhere in between these two, and it's a great all-around machine.....but I had my bases coverd by the R and the EX, so I let the Z go. Actually, my relatives were all riding the Z for free, so one day I suggested that they step up to the plate and buy the thing!

I have always found the power between these two quads to be very close until you start laying some heavy change into engine mods.
The Z400 has liquid cooling, an added incentive.
But the frames on them will not take a beating like any of the other brands....Especially the 03 and 04 models....And you dont have to race MX to break them either. Same thing applies to the rear axle.....regardless of year.
I like the Z alot,...the later models have awesome suspension for it's class. And as reonranger said, the geometry is spot on with an EX.
Weak frames and axles aside,...the reason I never raced one over the EX was for the difference in ergos.
That is the one major difference between the two that a rider will either like or not like when riding them back to back.

I had an EX and loved the thing. If there was anyway possible I could afford to keep it as well as the 450 I would of done it in a heart beat. For 3 grand you should be able to find a good modded 400EX that should run stronger than a Z. The suspension is not quite on par with the Z but, I never complained 1 bit on mine. The air cooled EX can not be beat on trail riding. A couple of the trails I ride go down into a canyon and cross a creek. In there you will have to creep around a bit. That EX never stuttered. Comes out everytime ready for more and never gets hot enough to make me worry.
Don't know where your from honda200xrider but I live in OK and currently have 2 moderately modded EX's for sale.
