Default 06 trx400AT shifting problem only in D

Hi guys,

my wife 06' TRX400AT trail edition with GPS was running great until this path month.

Randomly when riding in the bush or just starting form stopped the Automatic transmition seems to be stuck in higher gears and has no power to move the bike. its seems when gowing at lower speeds it does not downshift anymore.

Note when Using ESP all is great. but my wife purshased the AT for the fact it was Automatic.

I called My dealer and he Boldly told me this is how the tranny works. you have to stop when than happens and let the tranny downshift..this happens sometimes when I just start the bike!!!! and was working great for over 7 months. He told me to call honda then...?????

Can anyone guide me on what to check or other post that mention this. could it be a sensor or a reset I must perform?

Also I have never noticed any blinking light yet when this happens

I had an 04 that did exactly same thing!!! Once you get the machine over 10 mph it would go just fine. Under that, you had to use the ESP mode to have any power. I bought an auto to have an auto.

I was told that is how this machine is. I had mine for 6 months & sold it. That's how I solved the problem. Hope you have better luck!!!!!!!!!

Obviously your dealer is just blowing you off. Your machine should down-shift to first gear when you get down to a low speed. That's how it is supposed to work. He's lying to you.

mine does not have any gears as you call it like the rincon. it is a hydro trans which i dont understand. i bought mine cause i got a good deal used. i want a good old foot shifter but hard to find around here. nobody wants to part with them. mine works fine after fixing the sticking brake pedal. joe

Have you changed your oil, these transmissions are very finiky on the grade of oil.
Use ONLY 10W40 oil in these machines or you will experience all types of shifting problems.

this was a computer issue back in the day, my buddy has an 04 and never ever had an issue, get the problem looked at. this is NOT normal for the at, my buddy had close to 4200 miles on his and barely if ever used the es system

I just bought a used '05 and it does the exact same thing. Doesn't shift down when you slow down. Sounds like it's an issue with this model, I wonder if there is a fix?

well i did the first oil change @ 20 hours..a few months back,.,

I am now just hitting 60 hours and this problem occured..note i used the honda Oil my dealer provided me..not sure if it was 10w30. i will re-check this.

is there some sort of computer reset i can also due.

ESp works fine so its hard for me to understand where issue is besides a cpu issue. But if it incorrect oil I will be glad.
