Default NOT A VERY COMMON MACHINE,HONDA ODYSSEY FL250,BUT I NEED SOME INFO PLEASE!!!!

Hi there.

Here is another of my questions and i need help please.

i purchased not too long a go a HONDA ODYSSEY FL250 ,1983, in excellent working condition and beautifull appearance, it has the mix in the gas tank that came with; these machines are a two stoke(cycle),and from factory they came set up for a direct mix thru the gas tank, they wont use a separate oil tank and oil pump, is a direct mix thru the gas tank.

i will like to know wich will be the best type of OIL that i could use for the mix, considering that the engine is very old,i will like to use an oil that protect the most and will work, protect, the best way possible and will help perform and keep the machine in the best condition possible.

any recomendations?
is motull 800 syntethic ,too much or heavy to use for the mix?

these machine(odyssey fl250) were made by HONDA,is a single piston 2 cycle engine and they look like GO KARTS,but they are off road and were the beggining of ATV'S, actually people reffer to them like HONDA ODYSSEY ATV, and they are great and nice looking machines to have, so i will like to get the best and better perfoming ,harmless product i can get.

One more question:
i have the machine stored in a warehouse were i go every week and start the engine for a few minutes, the machine its stored with the FUEL VALVE OFF.
other people have access to the warehouse and i noticed that the tarp that i use to cover the odyssey it was removed and placed back on again, and noticed that kids enter the facility and i have no way to isolatte the machine and keep it away from direct access.
SO HERE IS THE QUESTION : since i leave the fuel valve turned off for periods of 10 days and sometimes more; and the kids around dont know about it, if they try in my absence to start the engine using the pull rope ,since the fuel valve is off and is no mix going thru for some time(TWO WEEKS AVERAGE),can that situation damage the piston,or cylinder,or ring or anything in the engine if they try to start the engine with no mix going thru?

regards and i'll appreciatte your help.

Regular Honda GN2 2stroke oil will do a fine job in that machine.
If you want even more protection, you can use the Honda pro2 stroke oil.

No, the fuel valve being turned off will not hurt the engine if they try to run it, it will simply run out of fuel and quit.

I should also note, you should NOT leave premixed fuel in the machine for more then a 2 week period, the gasoline begins to break down the lubricity of the oil, and can lead to premature engine failure.

hi there.
thanks for your reply it have been very helpfull.

the story is short,i got it on ebay like a month ago and since,it have inside the gas tank the mix that came with it,wich i dont know how old it is; i drove it a couple of times including the day i picked up the odyssey to test drive it,and after i heve been around every 2 weeks to the warehouse to start the enfine for a few minutes. bottom line i dont know how old is the mix and i havent replaced since then; you think at this point it could be any harm or damage inside?
what is your recomendation for the way i have strored the machine?change the fluid how often? it will be good to increase the amount of oil in the mix to avoid constant replacement of the mix in case it doesnt get use?
thanks for your help,is great to count on people like you.
best regards

probably no damage done to the engine.

No, you dont want to add more oil to the mix because, as gasoline evaporates from the mix, it becomes richer in oil anyway.

I had the exact same machine you have. I drove it for years without 1 problem. I used any two stroke oil I could get my hands on and never had a problem. I mixed at 40 to 1 on hot days and 50 to 1 on warm to cold days. Never stuck a piston and never fouled a plug.

They are a fun little buggie but REALLY hard on your back. I kinda wish I had it back.

One thing I used to do is put premium in it. Mine sat for a long time too. This way when the lighter hydrocarbons would burn off you sitll had some pretty good fuel to keep the detonation away.

hi and thanks again,is good to know that some people are willing to share information and knoledge.
i allready got the honda 2 cycle stroke oil and i have a few mre questions please:
about the old mix that is allready in the tank and by the way it smokes, what will be the best thing to do: drain the tank and start with a fresh mix? or prepare the new mix and leave the old one there so the two of the get mixed?

what will be the correct amount to mix?(how much oil per gallon of gas? the manual say's 20-1 is that ok?or to little oil?

i dont know what type of gas and oil it was used in the mix allready in there, so if i add a new mix to the old one and both get mixed,it matters if the gas and oil are not the same type and quanttity used in every mix?

what type of gas is better to be used(87-89-93)?

i have a suzuki lt80 atv 2 cycle 2002, wich is a direct mix too,and i use motull 800 syntetic oil and i use 50 to 1 for the mix, why the honda odyssey in the manual recomends 20 to 1 beena much bigger engine?
best regards and thanks.

I would use the motul 800 like you use in your lt80. I would use 92 or higher grade of fuel. The honda manual was printed when most people used conventional oil as a mix and 20 to 1 was necessary. Synthetic oils allow thinner ratios with the same protection, and much less smoke.

Default hi

it says mix fuel 20 to 1 simply because oil was not as good as it is these days especially using a synthetic 20 to 1 is way to rich pretty much any synthetic you use should be around 40 to one or 45 to one if you do not use a synthetic i mix 34 to one which is about 4 ounces per gallon with a regular two stroke oil your synthetic should have a mixing diagram on the back for onces of oil to gallons of gas i have an 84 fl250 and 91 octane with regular two stroke oil 34 to 1 works great
