Engine life on 660 Raptor engines.

looking to get a pole of what everyone thinks or knows for sure. What seems to be the normal engine life span for a 660 Rappy engine with good upkeep, I.E. regular oils change and oil and air filter changes and valve adjustments. All in all, how much use can we get out of these things.

thats a impossible question to answer..With all the mods you have listed I'm sure you know your bike pretty well,it all depends on many factors..The way you ride the conditions you ride in and the upkeep of your machine..I still see people riding 3 wheelers from the 80's..Parts will always fail in and out of your motor, but a total melt down with good upkeep??Impossible to say..I have a GMC pickup with well over 200k miles on it and it is still in great shape..

Yeah, you're right about the mods. But, if you have simple bolt on parts like in my case, and your only hop up's are a filter, jet kit, and pipe, How long can the stock engine go with good upkeep. Let's assume the average rider does trail, desert and dune riding. No races and there is the occasional wide open run now and then. Those older bikes are still around because of their simplicity. With todays bikes with EFI, overhead cam, multi valves they are more prone to fail.

Lol I'd say keep up with everything you are doing and you should be good for a long wile We both have 03's I'd bet that 3 years longer than Yamaha would like to see turnover lol,we already beat the system

I like both the raptor an the yfz 450 .My buddy has both an I have ridden then both, bites knuckles boy am I jealous,jk I dont know which 1 ill buy off him eventually.I think the raptor will last along time by doing air,oil filter an valve adjustments, changing coolant etc.WHat I believe wears motors out is a combo of things poor maintentance, revs, shoddy engine parts age, cause any moving part is friction an will eventually wear out.If ya look at the old xrs vs the new crfs or yamaha tts vs yfz,its the revs that wear these motors out, rpms If ya look it up or ask some 1 Im sure theyll tell ya the same thing.Only thing I dont like about raptor is it seems alil top heavy an dont seem to land so well from jumping.

I had an engine hour meter on my '01 660R. When I took the meter off of it in the fall of '04, it was showing 250 hours. I would guess it has about 400 hours on it now. The only big thing I have had to do to it was replace the starter clutch bearing. I try to change the oil every 10/15 hours. That's cheap insurance. It does not use oil between changes. I think it runs even stronger than it did when it was new. I knock on wood that I have never had any tranny problems like a lot of '01 owners. Probably happen the next time I am out since I am bragging on it. Both of my sons have ridden it hard and it has been put away wet a lot of times. Oh, I forgot, I put a new battery in about a year and half ago. When I first got the bike, I had trouble with it blowing the carb boots off. Went to larger pilot jets and stopped it. I thinnk it has lots of hours of riding left in it.

If..........and this is a BIG if, you take extreem care with your aircleaner, it will last forever. That may be an overstatement, but not by much. Bore and stroke, are close to some Japaneese car engines and they will last 100's of thousands of miles without a rebuild.
I can't imagine putting even 25 thousand miles on a sport quad.
Sure the quad engine will be higher rev'ed a lot more than an average car engine but that won't account for most of the wear.
Most wear won't come from using cheap oil or not changing it often. It's from contaminated air coming past bad airfilters.
Keep a good airfilter on your engine and it will out last you.
