How to rope start 1999 polaris without key
#1
Hey Guys,
Need a little help. I bought 1999 polaris and in 2000 it was stolen off my property. The DPS recovered it. I brought it home today. The only thing is I no longer have the keys to it because troopers said it would never be found; so I didn't keep up with key. Any hoot polaris sittin in my back yard. The thief had been using it and kept it fairly condition. I can tell it was rope start. Not knowing to much about ATV can someone help guide me on starting this wheeler.

<div class="FTQUOTE"><begin quote> poopsie</end quote></div> wel thats something ive never been called before lol you could take the ser. number to a dealer and they can order you a new key, buy a new switch, or take the switch out (dont know what it is for a wheeler)and cross(hotwire) the wires in back. you sure the key isnt broke off in the switch already and they were using the kill switch to start and stop it (which you can do)?

Already talked to an Polaris Dealer. You cannot get a key from them with serial or vin number. I have to buy a new switch which I believe the lady said $40.00 No there was no key broke off in it. However the thief did leave his tools on polaris. Computer screw driver. Socket wrench with 2 sockets. Sandpaper for filing spark plugs wire I guess???????. Full tank of gas. Full of oil....

Welcome to the forums wheelerbritches.
Here's the problem we run into every time we get this type of post.
We have no way of knowing who the true owner of the atv is. This is not said to offend you, but to give an understanding why no responses are being posted.
The best advice is to get the key, like Stendori has suggested.
You'll find that the members of this forum are more than willing to help in any way possible, but we also don't want to post how to hotwire a quad either.
Anyone who has ever had theirs taken (or attempted) can appreciate that.

I understand and its kewl. But yes my posts are true. I did speak with an Polaris Dealer and they said it doesnt matter with serial or vin number. Polaris only makes X amount of keys and they dont make one for spare. The lady said the new ignition switch would cost around $40.00 No there was not a broken key in switch. The thief did leave his bag of goodies. Computer screwdriver, socket wrench with 2 sockets. Sandpaper. I guess to file spark plugs????? Fuel tank of gas and plenty of oil.....

if i was you i think i'd ask the cop how they started it or have them get the key back from whoever they recovered the quad from, or just buy the new switch and key to be sure he just dosent come back and drive it off again
if it started once without the key it should still start without the key, i've never seen a hotwire job fix itself
