1984 TRX200 Woes
#1
I recently bought a 1984 TRX200 to fool around with. The coil only fires once when you try to start it. This happens either with the starter button or using the pull start. I did check the magnetic rotor pickup on the side of the camshaft. It does turn when you try to start the motor. You need to turn off the key each time in order for the one spark to work. Trying a second time without turning off the key will produce nothing. Help.

Thanks, that sounds like a good place to start. I did try the coil wires today and it was doing the same thing. I'll try and check the wiring sometime this week and see what happens. I'll have to pull the front fenders and gas tank to get at the wiring.

The problems have been found. There is a ground wire under the front fenders near the steering column that was loose. Once I fixed that I was getting some spark. The spark plug was also no good. A new plug cured that problem. The ATV runs pretty good now. I just need to set the carb on it so that it will saty running. The idle is too low. Thanks Honda Mechanic for the test info.
