Default Replaceing the front shock

I have a busted shock in the front strut housing. Is there an aftermarket shock or will i have to buy a factory one.
Is there a way to take the old shock out and install a new one with out removing the strut housing from the machine? this is a 1999 SP 500

Thanks

Default Replaceing the front shock

Ordered some 2002 used struts from Ebay, they worked great. I had to remove the entire front end, rack, bumper and front plastic fenders. Then you will need to compress the springs and remove the tower bolts. Pretty easy, but time consuming. I did this on my 2000, SP500. The newer 2002 700 struts I put on are much better than the stock ones tha twere worn out.
