Default New 650 Outlander

I just traded a 450 C/M for the 650 Outlander. The left side, near your calf muscle gets VERY hot. Although it's a great machine, the heat can cause a problem. Especially if you ride very tight at high speeds. Has anybody had the same problem? There's alot of plastic surrounding motor and belts compared to other rides. Any Ideas???

Some folks have used a piece of sheet metal or wheel well rubber to make a heat shield.

We have a 2007 500 & 650 Outlanders the left side is not to bad heat wise, but the right side is realy hot. BRP needs to do somthing about it. We complained about it, didn't get any satisfaction, need more people to complain about it.
Other than that these Outlanders are awsome.
I think the people that have them are over looking the heat problem, because every thing else is so great.

Did you contact Can-AM Canada Directly ?? The above mentioned web page has a discussion about the same subject. The host was able to get the problem resolved throughv the Can-AM Home Organization.

I think the fix was only for heat thru the top, not the side. I dont see a heat shield on there for the side.

Don't know if heat resistant/non-conducting riding pants are available, might give them a search. Also don't know of anyone who has grippped the bike without getting burned.

The best fix for the left side is ceramic coating, inside and outside of the pipes/exhuast, but it will still be fairly hot. On the right side, I have not heard of any fixes for heat. BTW, the right side is the hottest side on mine too.

You might want to look a Renegade 500 or 800, same engine, see what they did. I think it's just a lot more open with the plastic.

I was thinking about putting a hole in the fender, and putting a plate ouer it, with louvers. That would divert air between my leg, and the motor. Bad thing it would let the dirt come through also. If you set in a aqudard spot, and put your legs in a bowlegged, but all these ways to ride so the heat isn't a problem, put you in " unsafe riding"
We need to keep complaining to BRP.
