Correct me if I'm wrong, but does the older Sportsman 400, Sportsman 450 and new Sportsman 400 HO have the same 455 cc engine????? Whats up with this? Why keep changin the name?

 

The newer sportsman 450 came out in 2006 with the 455cc motor............They were out in 2006 and 2007............Now with the 2008 model they call it the Sportsman 400 H.O......Same 455cc motor but now for 2008 in the mid-size frame...(hawkeye frame)..........The older Sportsman 400 2005 and older did not have the 455cc motor..............any more question just ask...........Caper.........

 

And some claim with the new frame design it will run faster cuz its a
lighter frame than the old 400-450 models. I am no expert but just going
by what others have said, it seems plausible? As for me, my wife is happy
with hers so we don't plan on trading or selling.

Lots of differences between the 08 Sportsman 455 and the older 455 Sportsman.

Side by side comparison.

The older SP450 is more a Utility and the new Sportsman 400 is more a trail machine.

The older Sp450 has longer suspension ,larger 25" wheels, and a low range and uses the full size Polaris frame. The new SP400 H.O shows this by its price reduction though.

Funny, Most Manufacturers lie about displacement towards the higher end. Sp800(760cc), 450 Grizzly(421cc) and 500 Foreman(475cc).

The new Sportsman 400 H.O is really a 455cc,I quess it,s a High Output for sure for a 400.[img]i/expressions/face-icon-small-wink.gif[/img]

 

He just asked about the engine...........But there are lots of of differance........Including towing Cap. also........due to the smaller frame.........I just stuck with the engine question..............Caper.........

 

No PARK in the new 2008 and 9" of clearance instead of the full 11" on the 2006.........

I myself would rather the full size model.................Caper

 

I think I know the answer to this question, but is the new 400 On-Demand AWD selectable
from 2x4 to 4x4? Cuz on the older HWKEYE's they had 2 verisions. A 2x4 or an AWD.
I suspect its selectable like the 450's?

you guys left a big diff. out as well. the 08' 400 has EBS where the 450 does not. its 117 lb lighter because its a differnt frame and other features as well. i do beleave the awd is still the same in selecting from 2 wheel to awd by switch. its not the work house the full size 450 is for sure.

 

Yea and I noticed when reading the side by side comparisons that you get almost .475 gals with the 08'
4.5 for the new 400 and it was 4.25 on the older 450's.

 

ypu and go figure we've stuck w/ 4.13 gal. on our 800's lol. it seems to me the 08' is better on gas then the 06' was so far.
