Raptor Reverse Light On/Off Engine dies On/Off
#1
Hello - I hope someone can help with this problem and my idea to solve it. My Raptor 660 (2001) will run fine until the reverse light wants to come on even when not in reverse. When I run hard down the trails this will cause the engine to die off and then restart up like someone is turning a switch on and off. I have read other forum questions on this and agree it is with the switch connector down on the left side of the engine by the output spoket. I have cleaned it and it worked for awhile and then starts up with the same old problem. What if I just pull of the wire from the switch and ground it out all the time. Sure, I lose the reverse light etc...but then this problem will go away and maybe I can enjoy a whole day on the dunes. No.. I don't want to go 50mph in reverse and Yes I will know when I'm in reverse. Yes- I believe my idle is set at the correct level. Side note: I ride my quads very hard. I own two 400ex's, a Kodiak and this Raptor. I have been able to break all of them at different parts of the riding season. This Raptor has no mods at this time. Thanks for any and all feedback.

The reverse switch wire is Green/white. If it is not tight at the switch or the connection to the switch is corroded or dirty, the reverse light and reverse limiter will come on.
You can ground the wire permanently and the limiter and light will be locked out as you said, with no ill effects other than being able to kill yourself in reverse. As described, you are probably smart enough to avoid this.
Good luck!
