Has anybody made there front storage box on there Sportsman WATER-PROOF yet!!.......Yes I know they are pretty good stock..............LOL.....But I was wondering about the plastic RAD access cover that can pop off under any pressure when hitting the water at a good speed.

Let see some ideas for making that cover water-proof but keep it so it can be removed!!!.......Thanks..........Caper...........

silicone is the only way i know of to seal it but there again you would have to cut it off to take the cover off the R. cap hole.

I would sure like to have it sealed better also. Looks to me like are 3 main entry points. The fuse cover, strut acess points, and the cover seal. After a good ride have the wells with about 2" of water & mud in where the drain holes are. Have pondered how to seal it better but have not really came up with a feasible solution yet. Also the back storage area gets full also. Have found no safe storage where I can put anything that I want to stay dry unless I wrap it in plastic bags first.

Buy a replacement part number front stoarage box from a late model 06, 07, or 08. They are different, dont have acces points above the struts and have a rubber seal without holes on top of the radiator cap. They seal alot better. Also I replaced the foam seal from both of my boxes with a rubber, automotive type, seal.

Same cover, I have 4 fuses under there also at least says 12v 20 amp on one of them. My last ride is the only one that popped the cover off. ( It was a he!! of a great ride.) Water hole after water hole. Have thought of laying a bead of silicone under the cover gasket to spacer that up a bit. Maybe duct tape the rad/fuse cover so is removable. Maybe some silicone over the strut covers. Also have some holes around where the box mounts on, again maybe some silicone.

Have a 07 500 which gets rode everyday rain or shine with many creek crossings of which the deepest is about 15 inches and during the summer if in the mood will hit them pretty fast and things in the front storage have never gotten wet. Don't use the rear so don't know what's going on back there. One problem I have just started to notice is that the latches on both sides of the front storage are unlocking probably due to vibration. Have a rifle mounted on the lid so maybe the extra weight has something to do with the latches unlocking .Haven't had time to look at them but it will probably be a easy fix.

actually the reason my cover has not popped off is likely due to my front compartment is full of extra clothing and stuff which pushes against the lid when down holding the fuse cover in place....
