Lift kit and Tire for 420
#1
I have a stock 420 and I want to upgrade my rims and tires plus a lift kit. I'm looking for something for both mud and trail riding 27'' tires???? But what rim should I go for 12'' or 14'' dose it make any difference??? Also whats the best lift kit for the 420??? I know moose has one but it is only a 1 1/2 inch lift, 2'' HL lift kit, 2'' Xtreme Lift, and super ATV lift has a 2'' lift kit.

I'll give you my little lecture on the subject: The Rancher is a sweet little trail quad. It isn't a monster mud bogger or an rock crawler. You throw big tires and a lift on it, and you are going to ruin the sweet handling. If you need a monster mud quad, sell the Rancher to a trail rider and get yourself something bigger.....

you are right!!!!! But I'm not going to do that. I'll use what I got and mod it. Lots of people are happy with the mods and I want to do the same. The 420 has enough power for the bigger tires and all that good stuff. Plus I don't want to spend $7,000 - $10,000 on a bigger quad!!! I don't have that kind of money.

Really, I think a lot of it is that folks want a certain "look". The Rancher has a very good price...but folks have dreams of something bigger...so they mod it up and ruin it! I speak from experience here.
Then they come in here and complain that it developed severe bump steer.....

Go with the 14s on most any quad smaller than a 500. 2" more of aluminum is much lighter than 2" taller rubber regardless of the tire out there that you choose. However, there still arent as many mudders available in the 14" sizes than they are in the 12" sizes.
A good combo example would be the 27" MudLites (Not the XTRs) on 14" ITP SS wheels. It's a popular kit used by many of the guys runing the smaller 4x4s.
Another ballanced example would be using the 26" versions on 12s. About the the same weight as 27s on 14s but the ground clearance ofcourse will be less. Price is the advantage with the 26/12 as both the tires and wheels are cheaper. Just depends on whether or not you need the extra clearance.

Im going for the 12"ss108 with 27"swamplite for both trail and mud. Don't want 14 because of the turning weight. Also a lift kit, don't know which one to get yet.
example - On my mustang I went from stock 15" to 17" I felt the difference.

speaking form experiance, i had one, put 27s on it and it couldnt get out of its own way. Its was a lead sled. so i kepted the tires and bought a new rubicon. ranchers just dont have the power. get something with 450cc or bigger.

Amura, I would just use a little common sense when you do it. Personally I think the guys with30 inch tires and say it is good is full of crap, common sense tells me this. Sometimes testosterone overload won't let a guy admit they messed up. Not sure I would be too ready to beleive the 28 inch although it may work if it is not TOO aggressive. There are many mods you can make to put you in between these and what you have stock. This is personally the way I would go. I do not agree with totally talking you out of it. It is your quad and your money so you have the right to do whatever you want to to it. Just use a little commone sense if you want it to stay a good trail quad and don't go too overboard and you should be fine.

I appreciate your concern but I am still getting the 12" ss108 rims, and the 27" swamp lite witch I think is ok for both mud and trial. No I don't want to push it with the 28" or 30"
Yes, I know it's a good trail quad but I do go mudding in it.
Also looking into lift spring, I do a lot of trial riding and the struts are not that good I think. Bottom out to much.
