Default rear wheel drive not working only front wheels

Polaris X2 2006 500 EFI HO. Something happen this weekend when my brother was riding it. Now when you put it in Low, High, or Reverse it will not go, the engine idles up but the rear wheels dont spin. When i put the unit in AWD the front wheels spin fine but the rear are still not engadged. The engine braking also appears to be broken. I was told he stopped the unit, put in in park and when he went to drive again it was broken. Help!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Can you push the bike?? Is it locked up in the rear wheels?? When its in 2wd and you try to move is there any strange noise?? What about in 4wd?? Any noise?? I suspect maybe a broken chain in the transmission. That might make it not move in 2wd and move in 4wd.

Maybe a little more info might help

Yes i can push the bike fine, there isn't any noises when in 2wd or when in 4wd. The bike goes fine in AWD but is only powered by the front wheels. When in 2wd the engine revs up fine but the bike acts like its in neutral. Let me know if more info helps, do these chains just break, the bike only has about 300 miles on it.

Sounds like a warranty issue I hope.

Uhmmm.... I Thought the back wheels have to turn a bit to make the "on demand" front end engage?

My 06 still has a little bit of the three year warranty left.

You might want to check and see if the drive shaft to the rear differential is spinning, if it is, then the rear end is the problem or something in it. If it is not, most likely something in the tranny.

Keep us posted

mfarrer, if it is a transmission problem, and you would rather replace it as opposed to tearing into it, I have a good used one. Check your private messages for details.

ya this is true, but it doesnt mean that polaris would cover it unless you had a good dealer go to bat for ya. they'll probably say its his fault for abuse or something. anyways good luck w/ it for sure and let us know.
