Default Lifting A 95 Sportsman 400

I did the serach on here and did not know if the sportsmans are all the same including years and sizes for suspension. First of all, I am new to the 4 wheeler world as owning one of my own. I am coming out of dirtbikes for 23 years and need to settle down a little. I have a 95 sportsman 400. I would like o put a lift on this no more than 2". I would like to put the ITP wheels and bigger tires on it to make more around the Can Am size. However, I do not want to spend all this money and turn around and spend more on axles. I saw where some have put kits on 700's and 800's and said there axles are still fine. The local Polaris shop says it will cause axle binding and breakage. Anyone had any problems with this? Also what kit could I buy for this model and what other wheels will fit this model from other manufacturers? I go to the ITP website and try to look up wheel and tire packages for mine and can not find any. Thanks in advance for any help.
