Buying a 2001 660R What to look for???
#1
Hi, Guy's New to Quads (Rm250 Rider/too many falls!)
Finally decided to get a Raptor 660 instead of the DS650.
Seller mentioned it needs a starter clutch? Said $180 part?
I searched here and found out the 2001's have tranny problems?
Also what is Wrinkling? frame problems etc.
How to check engine, suspension.
I think this will be a good ride for me
Being 6'4" 265lbs is this ride going to be right?
Thanks again,
Mike

Starter clutch is around 180-200 dollars for that part, plus the 50 dollar starter gear, upgraded flywheel bolts and gasket kit. To swap it out you've got to pull the flywheel and labor is a big cost if you're not doing it yourself.
on top of that you've got the 01 trans issues. Not all of them are bad, but enough of them go bad even this late in life that I wouldn't buy one unless it was many hundreds of dollars cheaper than the 02-05 models selling in my area.

Thanks guys,
The guys asking $3000CAD
Will a YFZ450 be a better choice.
Should I wait for a 02-05?
The Raptor 350 is 2 stroke but how does it compare to the 600R
I'm 6'4" 265, Enough power?

Raptor 350 is a Yamaha Warrior with a few updates and new plastics, it's a two-valve four stroke and not on the same level as a raptor 660 or yfz450.
The banshee 350 is a two stroke and a very good atv. Though probably not the best choice for most as a reliable trail machine because of the how good the yfz and 660 raptor are. The banshee is a great machine though.
As for the best choice that's largely a personal matter depending on what you're going to be using the machine for, your riding style, your size and personal comfort, etc.
