Default Brake Fluid on 800 X2

I have a 2007 800 X2 and the rubber grommet was damaged from the factory. It has slowly leaked some and I finally got a new cap. I went out and bought some DOT 3 brake fluid, and then checked my manual and noticed it say's to use DOT 4 brake fluid. I haven't added any yet, but was wondering if this may be a typo as I have never heard of DOT 4 fluid. DO they make this stuff and where can I get it besides Polaris?

Any Auto store will have it. Also, Walmart or any department store with an automotive section should have it. DOT 4 does exist, and may be safely mixed wtih DOT 3. Do not mix DOT 5 with either of them though. Good luck.

I thought I read somewhere that DOT 4 will not harm rubber, and DOT 3 will. I suppose I better just go get a bottle of #4 huh? Must be a reaon why they want #4, like a rubber seal or something.

If you search the Internet, you will find all sorts of information on brake fluid, the different types, and what is compatible with what. Good luck.
